For being jolly, merry and bright. For Christmas work parties, family dinners and running around buying last minute presents. Unless of course you are one of those people that had finished buying all their presents by the first day of summer. We are quite organised at Barrel of Laughs HQ but sadly not THAT organised. We are however looking forward to drinking port, eating mince pies and giving all our loved ones their gifts.
There are 12 days of Christmas so we thought we would let you know the 12 must haves, at Barrel of Laughs HQ for the festive holidays…
13th December – The first day of Christmas.
My true love gave to me… A partridge in a pear tree.
Or a box of chocolates (a large selection box like Quality street or Celebrations) will do. With work and the kids still at school, sometimes it can take a little while to start feeling the festive spirit. When you dig out the box of chocolates that you bought for Christmas and light the fire, snuggle up and watch Elf, or play pictionary you really start to get the Christmas feels.
Hats! The temperature has begun to drop and everyone has pulled out their warm winter clothes. Why not swap your beanie hat for a Santa’s hat or an equally festive alternative. From the 1st December it is totally acceptable to wear your Santa’s hat at all times.
The mince pie challenge. Everyone loves mince pies right? Well how do you know which company/shop produces the best ones, unless you try them all?! We purchase those delicious little pies from a variety of places over the festive period and rate them to find out the winner of the year. Who’s will be your favourite?
Christmas music. Whilst we might all complain when they start playing Christmas music the day after Halloween, by now we find ourselves singing along when you walk into a shop and they have Christmas music playing. Why not stick on a festive playlist and get into the Christmas spirit.
Christmas coffee! What is about the Christmas period that makes us want bailey’s in our coffee? Lathered with cream and sprinkled with cinnamon. Mmm, yes please! If bailey’s isn’t your tipple, try Kahlua.
Christmas Parties. You have worked hard all year and so why not get the opportunity to eat, drink and be merry with your colleagues. Don’t forget to wear your Christmas jumper and earrings!
Everything mulled. Cider or wine- we don’t mind!
Here is our top recipe for mulled wine;
1 btl red wine
2 oranges cut into slices
1 lemon cut into slices
1 vanilla pod- split length ways
4 all spice berries
1 star anise
2 bay leaves
150g caster sugar
Heat in a saucepan and simmer until all the sugar has dissolved. Strain and serve with a slice of orange and stick of cinnamon.
Bread Sauce. Why is it that we only make bread sauce for Christmas dinner? Why don’t we make it for every roast dinner through-out the year? Or maybe you do and it just gets forgotten about at Barrel of Laughs HQ.
Glitter! It is totally acceptable to wear anything glittery over the festive season. Including any and all glitter make-up. The closer to Christmas it gets the more there should be.
Fairy lights. Like Barrel of Laughs HQ, you may have certain fairy lights that stay up all year. We love fairy lights! However, when all the decorations go up inside we like to add even more. On the tree, around the windows and even in the kitchen.
Here is our Barrel of Laughs cocktails special- White / Red winter fizz.
125ml Sauvignon Blanc or Merlot
25ml Crème de cassis
1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
Topped with lemonade
Served with cinnamon sugar rimmed glass and a slice of orange.
Chestnuts. Nothing beats a chestnut cooked on a fire. Don’t forget to pierce them first so they don’t pop in the fire.
So, there you have it; Barrel of Laughs top 12 things for getting you in that festive spirit.
We hope you have a truly fantastic Christmas!
Warm festive wishes from all of us here at Barrel of Laughs HQ X
